Newtown is renowned for its cultural diverse suburb through food, art and people. It will be transformed and promoted as an interactive and pleasant place by connecting existing street art with new and revitalized public open spaces. The new public spaces will build upon Newtown’s enriched diverse culture, universal accessibility, inclusivity to create places to Newtown’s unique local characters. Our vision is to create a public plaza that present Newtown culture in an interesting, creative and interactive format. The plaza is built based on sustainable goal and aim for people’s safety and well-being.

Unique urban furniture and installations are added more to represent the culture character of the plaza. Sound barriers with vegetations and water features are installed to provide sound masking system to reduce the noises from the transport and traffic. The amount of street lights and luminous street furniture are increased to make pedestrians feel safe at night to walk through. Existing trees are relocated into a more organized way and some deciduous trees are planted in the centre of the plaza to let sunlight in winter and provide shades in summer. This will increase occupants’ comfort level.
